My Journey to Fatherhood

“Mother’s Day

“Mother’s Day

Today is Mother’s Day, and I can’t help but feel a little sad. Am I being Selfish wanting a baby on my own? What will happen when my babies start to go to school, and all their friends are celebrating Mother’s Day? I know that without my mother I don’t think I would be the person I am today. I remember one day when I was very young; I had a terrible cough, so bad that I couldn’t breathe. I was in the back seat, my parents in the front. The cough got so bad that my dad pulled over and my mom joined me in the back seat. She hugged me and held me tight in her arms, and the cough just stopped.

I thank God that my mother will be a strong presence in my babies lives. I thank God that she supports me and my decisions. I thank God that her eyes filled with tears when I told her it’s twins. I hope that my babies will not feel any less about my decision and that my love will be enough for their little hearts. I hope that they will be strong enough to know that although they might not have a mom, they can always depend on their dad. That their dad will do everything in his power to never make them feel less than anything, and to teach them the true meaning of unconditional love, just as my mother did for me.

So Happy Mother’s Day to my mother (ILYWAMHAS) and all the mothers out there. Be the best you can be and know that your kids will always be proud of you.

In the words of Jim Brickman:

“Thank you for watching over me
All of the sleepless nights you lay awake
Thank you for knowing when to hold me close
and when to let me go

Thank you for every stepping stone
And for the path that always leads me home
I thank you for the time you took
to see the heart inside of me

You gave me the roots to start this life
and then you gave me wings to fly
And I learned to dream
Because you believed in me

There’s no power like it on this earth
No treasure equal to its worth
The gift of a mother’s love

Thank you for every sunlit day
That filled the corners of my memory
Thank you for every selfless unsung deed
I know you did for me

Thank you for giving me the choice
To search my soul till I could find my voice
And I thank you for teaching me
To be strong enough to bend
There’s no power like it on this earth
No treasure equal to its worth
The gift of a mother’s love

I thank God for a mother’s love.”

  • Beautiful Jospeh, this made me cry. You will be enough and your beautiful babies will have so much love from not only you but all the amazing and strong women that will be around them. You are going to be an amazing father and they will be so lucky to have you as their daddy xo
